Privacy policy
The short version: the Thole app keeps your food, training and body logs on your phone. There's no Thole account, no advertising and no tracking. This website sets no cookies. If you join the early-access list, we keep your email address only to tell you about Thole.
Who we are
Thole is made by Martin Hewlett in North Devon, United Kingdom. For anything about your data, email hello@thole.app. We are the data controller for the information described here.
The Thole app
- Your logs stay on your device. Foods, meals, targets, workouts, sets, weigh-ins and settings are saved in the app's private storage on your phone. We don't receive them and can't see them.
- No account. You don't sign up or log in to use Thole.
- No ads, analytics or tracking. The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking tools, and does not track you across other apps or websites.
- Reminders are scheduled on your phone by the app itself. Nothing is sent to us.
- Backups are files you choose to save and where to save them (for example to Files, iCloud Drive or Google Drive). They're handled by your phone and the service you pick, not by us.
- Deleting your data: use Settings → Your data → Clear all data, or delete the app. Because we never hold a copy, that removes it completely (apart from any backup files you've saved yourself).
As Thole gains new features before and after launch (such as looking up foods by barcode, reading steps from Apple Health or Health Connect, or in-app purchases), we'll update this policy before those features go live, explaining exactly what is shared, with whom, and why.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics. thole.app doesn't set cookies or use analytics or advertising tools. Our fonts are hosted on our own server, so your browser doesn't contact Google or anyone else to show them.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to run and protect the site. These are kept for a short period and aren't used to identify you.
The early-access email list
If you give us your email address, we use it only to tell you about Thole: launch news, early-access and founding-member offers. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email or by emailing us.
The list is run by our email provider, Kit (ConvertKit), which stores your address on our behalf. Kit is based in the United States, so your address may be processed there under appropriate safeguards. We never sell or share your address with anyone else.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent. Email hello@thole.app and we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Thole is designed for adults and isn't directed at children under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we'll let early-access members know by email.
